Caring for your Outdoor Furniture
Designed for outdoor living, our furniture is made to hold up to the elements while ageing with character. Here's a little more about the materials behind your piece, and how each one settles in over time.
Teak — Natural
Untreated teak, finished with a smooth, hand-sanded surface that brings out the wood’s natural warmth. Over time, exposure to the elements will gradually turn the honey tones to a soft, silvery grey. This natural patina is part of teak’s character and an expected part of outdoor ageing.
Dust regularly with a soft brush, following the direction of the grain to prevent dirt from building up. For general cleaning, use a soft cloth or sponge with warm water and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry. To help retain the warmer, honey tones and slow the greying process, apply a teak protector or sealer after the piece has been outdoors for a few weeks. Reapply once or twice a year, depending on exposure to sun and rain.
Teak — Khaki
Teak finished by hand through a multi-step process, giving the timber an aged, lived-in appearance from the outset. With continued exposure to the elements, the finish will gradually wear away, revealing the natural timber beneath. Over time, the exposed wood will weather to the same silvery-grey patina as our natural teak.
Clean as needed with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, taking care not to saturate the surface. We do not recommend applying teak oil to this finish. As the surface has already been treated, the oil is unlikely to absorb evenly and can trap moisture, increasing the risk of mould and mildew. The gradual wearing of the khaki finish is a natural part of its character and does not require correction or reapplication. Once the finish has worn through to the bare timber, the wood can be left to weather naturally to a silvery grey, or treated with a teak protector to help maintain a warmer tone.
Please note, teak is a natural material, and variations in colour and grain are to be expected. Exposure to the elements will also cause timber to age and change over time. Checking, splitting, cracking, mould, mildew, movement and colour changes are natural weathering processes and are not covered by warranty.
Powder-Coated Aluminium
Lightweight, strong, and naturally resistant to corrosion. Every aluminium component is marine-grade, built for coastal and humid climates.
Rinse regularly with a garden hose to remove dust, pollen and surface dirt. For marks or built-up grime, clean with warm water and mild soap using a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean towel to help prevent water spots. Avoid abrasive pads, scouring cleaners and solvent-based products, as these can scratch or dull the coating. Do not use a water blaster, as high-pressure water can damage the finish. Wipe up spills promptly and use coasters or placemats to help protect the surface from scratches and marks. In coastal areas or near chlorinated pools, rinse more frequently to remove salt and chlorine residue, which can accelerate wear if left on the surface.
HDPE Wicker
Woven from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), this durable, UV-resistant and waterproof material is designed to withstand the elements, making it well suited to outdoor living in a range of climates.
Rinse regularly with a garden hose to remove dust, debris and dirt from between the weave. For built-up dirt, use warm water and mild soap with a soft-bristled brush to gently clean between the strands. Rinse thoroughly and allow the piece to dry completely before storing.
Outdoor Fabrics
Sunproof fabrics are designed for outdoor living, tested to international standards for colour fastness, UV protection, water repellency, and resistance to stains and mildew. Regular care helps maintain their appearance and keep them looking their best season after season.
Brush off loose dirt, dust and pollen regularly to prevent it from settling into the fabric. Treat spills and stains promptly using lukewarm water and mild detergent. Gently clean with a soft brush or sponge, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid bleach, chlorine and other harsh chemicals that may affect the fabric’s colour and finish. During extended periods of non-use or in poor weather, bring cushions indoors or store them in a dry, covered area.
High-Density Foam
High-density foam is designed to hold its shape under regular use, moisture-resistant making it suitable for outdoor use, though not designed to be submerged or left saturated.
Keep cushions under cover or bring them inside during heavy or prolonged rain. Stand damp cushions on their edge in a shaded, ventilated spot to drain and dry. For extended periods of non-use, bring dry cushions inside or store under cover.
Glass-Reinforced Concrete
Made from a blend of high-strength cement and fibreglass reinforcement, GRC offers the solid look of concrete with a lighter weight and improved resistance to cracking compared with traditional cast concrete. Designed to withstand a range of weather conditions, it is suited to both indoor and outdoor use.
Position pieces where water can drain freely. Raising them slightly off paving or decking is recommended to encourage airflow and prevent moisture from collecting underneath. Wipe up spills promptly and use coasters or placemats to help protect the surface from scratches and marks. Avoid using a water blaster, as high-pressure water can damage the surface. Faint tonal variations and fine hairline surface crazing may occur naturally. These are cosmetic characteristics of GRC and do not affect its structural integrity or constitute a defect.
Planting directly into GRC pots
Loosely cover drainage holes with mesh or a similar material to prevent blockages while allowing water to drain freely. Use a good-quality, free-draining potting mix to help prevent water from sitting in the pot. If using acid-rich fertilisers, place a plastic nursery liner inside the pot to protect the GRC surface, as acidic products may cause damage.
