Every collection has a beginning. For Kayu Studio, it started with a focus on natural materials, skilled hands and the beauty of things made well.

Five years on, Origins brings together a selection of the signature pieces that continue to shape our approach to design. From sculptural timber forms to woven details, each is made by hand in Indonesia, with the natural character of the material left to speak for itself. Subtle variations in grain, shape and finish make every piece its own.

We travelled to Java with founder James Mitchell to revisit the people and processes behind the collection, and the ideas that continue to guide us today.
