About the Artist:
Visual Artist, Meg Gallagher has built a prominent reputation in the past decade as a creative. Having worked for some of the most recognisable names in the fashion industry before returning to painting as her chosen medium.
Born in the deep south of New Zealand, Meg grew up with the rugged, rural and beautiful landscapes of Otago as her backdrop. Combined with a father that ran the city's art centre, it was an ideal breeding ground for developing a creative language of her own from a young age. Gallagher went on to complete a Bachelor of Design majoring in Fashion Design with 1st class honours.
After being named as One to Watch by Vogue Italia and being awarded a scholarship to study at Milan's Istituto Europeo di Design, Meg's design career was kickstarted and she soon found herself in top roles at brands such as; Camilla and Marc, Insight and Ksubi. It has been during her time at Ksubi where Meg cultivated her skills in becoming an expert in denim design.
Denim now plays a large role in her art practise, choosing to use off cuts leftover from production runs that would normally be destined for waste. The textured treatments she applies speak to her time in the fashion industry. Using a mixture of natural pigments, dyes and bleach to manipulate the denim into organic textures.
